About Barbara

Barbara is a master who has been studying and teaching yoga most of her life. She has studied extensively with many of yoga’s finest teachers and a wide variety of techniques and styles and is an Anusara affiliated teacher. Barbara brings to her teaching her joy, enthusiasm, love of yoga, and a great sense of humor. Her gentle guidance and knowledge of yoga therapeutics are a blessing for those who may be physically challenged. As a student recently said,

“Barbara creates an atmosphere of challenge without competition or judgment. She adjusts to individual needs in a way that helps everyone feel the pose more deeply. Practicing yoga with Barbara is a joy."

Barbara approaches yoga with a beginner’s mind and thus is always eager to increase her knowledge of yoga, both physically and philosophically. She continues to attend workshops whenever possible. In her classes, retreats, and workshops Barbara has had the opportunity teach students of all ages and levels of yoga experience.

Carl Franz, the author of The People's Guide to Mexico, wrote "As a travel writer and 55 year-old wilderness guide, I've learned the hard way that I can't continue to do good work without improving my body's flexibility. Thanks to the recommendations of several chiropractors -- and inspired by the pain of paying their bills -- I finally began to practice yoga with Barbara Luboff. Awkward, unbalanced, and feeling more than a little out-of-place, I soon found, however, that Barbara's easy humor and clear, practical instructions were having their effect! Rather than dangerous, painful contortions, Barbara has been teaching me simple postures and gentle stretches that gradually release years of accumulated tension and stress. Not only has my flexibility improved, but even as a raw yoga beginner I definitely notice a stimulating 'tonic' effect from my practice. Having first come to yoga rather reluctantly, I'm continually amazed at how beneficial Barbara's classes can be."

In a yoga vacation, Barbara will adjust her teaching to accommodate the students and will make the yoga as gentle or as difficult as you like. Barbara also enjoys the yoga of cooking, eating (especially potato chips), studying Sanskrit and Spanish, swimming, knitting and staring at the sea....
