Yoga in Mexico

Featured in "Yoga Escapes: A Yoga Journal Guide to the Best Places to Relax, Reflect, and Renew"

I love Mexico and I love yoga!! So it was natural for "Yoga in Mexico" to begin. My husband, Ken, and I moved to Mexico in December of 1994, and the first retreat I led was in April of 1995 at the Mar de Jade Retreat Center on the Pacific Coast north of Puerto Vallarta. Most of the attendees were friends and yoga students from San Miguel de Allende, a colonial town in the central highlands three hours northwest of Mexico City. We were living there at the time. That first retreat demonstrated that yoga, humor, good food, and a tranquil Mexican beach combine to create a spirit of camaraderie, love and well being.

We wanted to share that spirit with as many people as possible. For six winters, we hosted one or two retreats at Mar de Jade attracting students from all over the world, and we believe that each retreat captured the same amazing spirit of the original retreat.

But things change. Three years ago we moved to the Pacific coast of Mexico, to a place called Punta Custodio, close to the village of Platanitos (Little Bananas). We had traveled extensively all over the world and Punta Custodio was one of the most beautiful spots we had ever seen. It is remote and pristine. Punta Custodio is a small community of eight homes on a rocky peninsula jutting out into the sea. It is about 1-1/2 hours north of Puerto Vallarta. Ken and I were the only full-time residents; most of the homes sit empty unless they are rented out or the owners are visiting. In March of this year, Ken died peacefully, mindfully and courageously after a long bout with cancer. I have decided that this is where I want to stay and I am very pleased to be able to make this beautiful spot available to you by offering week long private, luxurious yoga vacations.

I will also arrange retreats for groups (4 to 16 people) to come share my paradise. I welcome yogis, meditators, artists, writers, and any group looking for natural beauty, tranquility, and all the amenities of a luxury vacation.

Please see the calendar page for upcoming retreats.

Hasta la vista!
